What Is Reiki?

A gentle practice of energy, balance, and reconnection.

Reiki is a Japanese complementary practice rooted in the idea that life energy flows through all living things. It offers a moment to slow down, find stillness, and reconnect with yourself.

The word Reiki combines two Japanese words: Rei, often interpreted as universal, and Ki, meaning life force energy.

In traditional Reiki practice, this energy is understood as connecting all living things. The intention is to encourage a sense of balance, harmony, and wellbeing through gentle, mindful practice.

At Achelois, we see Reiki as an invitation to pause, become present, and make space for yourself.

The Flow of Energy

Everything in life moves through seasons of change. There are moments when we feel grounded and connected, and others when life feels overwhelming or out of balance.

Reiki offers dedicated time to step away from the noise of everyday life and turn your attention inward.

During a session, a practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body, according to your comfort and preference. You remain fully clothed while resting in a calm, supportive environment.

Some people experience warmth, relaxation, or a sense of calm; others notice very little physically. Every experience is personal, and there is nothing you need to feel or achieve.

Reiki is commonly used as a complementary practice to support relaxation and stress management. Scientific evidence for its effectiveness in treating specific health conditions remains limited, and it should not replace medical care.

The Five Principles of Reiki

At the heart of Reiki are five principles that encourage mindfulness, compassion, and a more intentional way of living.

Each begins with the words “Just for today…” — a gentle reminder that we don't have to change everything at once. We can begin with the present moment.

1. Just for today, I will not be angry.

Allow yourself to acknowledge anger without letting it define you. Give yourself space to understand your feelings and choose how you respond.

2. Just for today, I will not worry.

Gently bring your attention back to the present. You cannot change everything that has happened or control everything that is yet to come, but you can meet this moment with care.

3. Just for today, I will be grateful.

Notice the little things that bring meaning to your life. Gratitude isn't about ignoring difficulties; it's about making space to appreciate what is still good, even during challenging times.

4. Just for today, I will work honestly.

Act with integrity, approach your responsibilities with intention, and honour the person you are becoming.

5. Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.

Offer compassion to the people around you, respect the life you share this world with, and remember to extend that same kindness to yourself.

Living the Principles

These principles aren't about being perfect or never feeling anger, worry, or frustration. They are reminders to return to yourself, again and again, with patience and compassion.

You can reflect on them through meditation, journaling, or simply carrying one principle with you throughout the day.

Sometimes, the smallest shifts in awareness can help us approach life differently.
